The Drumming Baristas Top 6 Coffees of 2022
In my opinion 3/4 of 2022 has been quite underwhelming for coffee.
TOP 6 AS THERE IS A JOINT SECOND PLACE.
Just like that, another year is over. Goodbye 2022 and hello 2023 and I find myself behind the screen and keyboard bringing you another edition of my top 5 coffees of the year.
3/4 of this year for coffee (in my opinion) has been underwhelming.
Most of those coffees I have had have been nice, but that’s the only word I can use to sum them up. But then in November C4 Coffee knocked on my Instagram DM Door, with news that they are releasing a new unique, micro-lot range of Colombian Coffees and a Christmas advent calendar and also asked if I would be keen to become an affiliate.
It’s like they must have been lurking in the background and found out that my favourite coffee-growing country is Colombia and that I was on the lookout to begin building The Drumming Barista into a more full-time gig. CRAZY! #SocialMediaLurking - No more conversation had to be had, as they had me at micro-lot Colombian coffees. It is safe to say, as you may well know, this changed the game for me and pretty much blew all the other coffees out of the park.
Just to make you all aware for some reason Substack has stopped converting links into embedded videos. So, I have placed the links to the Instagram Reels of the coffee I have rated for you to reminisce over.
Make sure to read all the way to the end for a little thank you message and update from me for 2023.
ALRIGHT. Less of that and more of what you came here for. Top 5 coffee time!
I am going to start by working down from number 5. Disclaimer - This isn’t me saying that numbers 5 or 4 aren’t bad coffees in any way they are just how I have decided to score them with the lasting impression they made.
Number 5:
Flight Coffee X Savage Coffee - Parabolic Instant Coffee
Yes. There is instant Coffee on this list. It had to be done as these instant coffees came out of nowhere and blew my socks off. I was not expecting to like them and did not expect that I would then go out and buy another box. It is safe to say, these got me good, like really good!

Number 4:
Toasted Coffee - Ethiopia Kochere Boji

Number 2:

Number 2:

So, here we go. Taking the number 1 spot out of my top 6 coffees of 2022 is:
Number 1:
Coffee Untitled - Honduras Natural

Those of you that remember this coffee will remember that this blew my socks off and blew my mind. The main reason is how well the coffee was roasted, how clean the coffee tasted and how easy it was to brew with to get a good result time and time again.
I was introduced to Coffee Untitled by a really great friend of mine, so I reached out to introduce myself and they kindly offered to send me a bag of coffee and man am I happy they did. To learn more about the coffee they sent and Coffee Untitled themselves, click both of the links above, give them a follow on Instagram and if you are up for it, grab yourself a bag of coffee. Trust me it won’t disappoint and will be a great way to kick off 2023.
So, there we have it, team. My top 6 coffees of 2022 and what a very up and down year of coffee it was. There were some WOW moments, Some Oh, Yeah moments and some Meh moments. But, did I enjoy brewing and drinking them - I surely did. I’m excited for 023 and to see what graces my bench and taste buds. So, make sure to be following me on Instagram, and YouTube, and subscribe here on Substack to stay in the loop of everything New Zealand coffee and during 2023 - INTERNATIONAL COFFEE!
That’s right. In 2023, I will be jet-setting to America for a month and possibly back to the motherland at Christmas for my first trip back in over 7 years. It’s going to be wild.
